Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Lyons Estate, Celbridge, County Kildare.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

379 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if all moneys invested by the State in Lyons Estate, Celbridge, County Kildare have been repaid to the Exchequer; if University College Dublin proposes to acquire any other property following the disposal of Lyons Estate; if so, if she will outline (1) the location of same (2) the cost of such acquisition and (3) the terms of the acquisition and any other financial implications; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Apart from some investment over the years to carry out adaptations and necessary maintenance to the actual house itself, which has now been sold, the various other facilities provided on the Lyons Estate with Exchequer funding did not form part of the sale and have been retained by the college.

I understand that UCD are currently considering the best use of the proceeds of the sale and I would expect consultations with the Higher Education Authority and my Department to take place in due course. I am not aware of any proposals to acquire other property.
