Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Force Pensions.

Michael Bell

Question:

32 Mr. Bell asked the Taoiseach the reason for the delay in the application of the Gleeson recommendation on Permanent Defence Force pensions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The only immediate change in the Defence Forces (pensions) schemes which was recommended by the commission was that military service allowance should be made reckonable in calculating superannuation benefits.

This recommendation is acceptable in principle and discussions with the elected representatives of officers and enlisted personnel regarding its implementation are ongoing.
