Vol. 404 No. 7

Written Answers. - Glanmire (Cork) School.

Bernard Allen

Question:

186 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education when she will sanction a two roomed permanent extension to St. Joseph's national school, Riverstown, Glanmire, County Cork as it is a rapidly expanding area with 600 planning applications and the present accommodation in the school is already chaotic with 16 classes in a four roomed school.

I would like to advise the Deputy that the actual accommodation of this school is as follows: (1) a permanent building which contains twelve classrooms; (2) a general purposes room; and (3) one prefabricated classroom provided in 1989.

More recently, the school authorities have requested the provision of an additional prefabricated classroom as an alternative to permanent accommodation. This is being considered having regard to the need to establish an appropriate enrolments policy for this school in particular and the catchment area generally.
