Vol. 404 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grants to National Association for the Deaf.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

20 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the annual grant paid to the National Association for the Deaf for each of the last four years for which figures are available; and if he will make a statement on the trend indicated.

Grants are paid to the National Association for the Deaf by the Eastern Health Board and the National Rehabilitation Board. There has been a gradual increase in grants paid over the past four years, as follows: 1987, £20,000; 1988, £20,000; 1989, £22,800; 1990, £24,400.

The association have been in touch with me seeking an increase in financial support to enable it to employ additional social workers for the deaf. I am examining this in consultation with the health boards.
