Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Unemployment Schemes.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

145 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will outline the schemes or funding which are available for organisations such as one (details supplied) in Dublin 17 who are working in the area of unemployment; the way in which applications for inclusion in such schemes should be presented; if he will outline any other relevant advice and guidelines on these schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are two schemes of grants administered by my Department.

This year £750,000 has been allocated for once-off grants in respect of projects being undertaken by voluntary organisations in the social services area. All grants under this scheme are allocated in consultation with the health boards to voluntary organisations providing social services to deprived groups and people in need.
Another scheme of grants administered by my Department is for women's groups. This scheme provides grants to assist locally based women's groups involved in programmes of self-help and personal development and priority is given to groups in disadvantaged areas.
The scheme of grants for voluntary bodies was advertised in the national papers on 9 January. Application forms are available from my Department and completed applications should be returned not later than 28 March.
The scheme of grants to locally-based women's groups will be advertised in the immediate future.
The organisation in question has, in fact, previously received assistance under the scheme of grants to voluntary bodies.
