Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cost of Third Level Education.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

19 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education the average cost of educating a student for one year at (a) university, (b) regional technical college, (c) Dublin Institute of Technology and (d) colleges of education; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

As indicated to the Deputy in a previous reply, because of the major differences in costs between courses within institutions, an average cost for each institution would be misleading. A unit cost study on a course basis for the institutions in the HEA sector will be completed later this year. In addition, a unit cost study for other third level institutions will also be finalised this year. As a result, more meaningful information will be available at that stage relating to cost per course in each institution.
