Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Employment of Non-Teaching Staff.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

34 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education if it is intended that secretaries and caretakers employed in schools, as provided in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress, shall be employed on a year round basis.

The proposals in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress are aimed at providing funding for primary and secondary schools in order to allow them to employ clerical and caretaking staff to the extent necessary for the running of those schools. The actual periods and hours for which they work will be matters for decision locally.

In the case of vocational, community and comprehensive schools additional staffing arrangements will be made based on the norms applicable to secondary schools.
