Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dublin College of Marketing and Design.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

37 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the accommodation and equipment problems at the College of Marketing and Design, Dublin 1; the measures she proposes to rectify the situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

238 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the appalling conditions at the College of Marketing and Design, Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1; and the plans she has for an immediate improvement in conditions.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 238 together. The full time enrolment in the College of Marketing and Design has remained relatively stable in recent years.

It is intended that the college will move to a new campus as part of a development programme supported by the European Regional Development Fund. I am aware of a proposal from the committee to increase the accommodation of the college in its present location by renting an adjacent premises. That proposal is at present being examined in my Department.
With regard to equipment, I made a sum of money available to the City of Dublin VEC in 1990 in order to enable the committee to provide additional equipment for the Dublin Institute of Technology colleges.
