Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Third Level Education Places.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

51 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education the steps she proposes to take to ensure that the random selection process, used by the Central Applications Office, will not cause students to be denied places in third level while students with the same points are granted places; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The more differentiated grading system for the leaving certificate being introduced by my Department from 1992, involving the award of 13 instead of six grades as heretofore should significantly reduce the number of cases where the random selection process has to be invoked.
