Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cork School Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

65 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the uncertainty associated with the introduction of the new school services in Cork on 17 January 1991, and the shortfall in funding for Bus Éireann in the 1991 Estimates, she will give an assurance that (1) the necessary funding will be forthcoming to provide the school services for the full year and (2) that the consultant's report on school transport will be made available to both Houses of the Oireachtas; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that sufficient funding will be made available to Bus Eireann in respect of the school transport scheme to maintain existing services and to meet the cost of new services in the current year.

The report to which the Deputy refers was jointly commissioned and has yet to be submitted to Government by the Departments of Tourism, Transport and Communications and Education.
