Question:75 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Finance the number of taxpayers who will exceed the table A tax band and be taxed at 48 per cent on (1) 1 December 1990; (2) 1 January 1991 and (3) 1 February 1991.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that data are not available which would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be given. However, it is provisionally estimated that some 147,000 PAYE taxpayers will pay tax at the marginal rate of 48 per cent in the current tax year.
