Question:

164 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he will outline the special advisory or consultancy services he has had in relation to his office, since his appointment; and the cost of same to date.

The following consultancy services have been commissioned since July 1989, at a total cost to date of £385,112.

School Transport Scheme:

A consultancy study by Deloitte, Haskins and Sells was jointly commissioned by the Department of Tourism and Transport and the Department of Education to examine the operations of the school transport scheme.

Meteorological Service:

The firm of Cooney, Carey and Associates in association with Dimension Marketing Production Limited were commissioned by the Department of Tourism and Transport to advise on the development of a commercial policy for the Meteorological Service.

Dublin/Belfast Rail Link:
The Department of Tourism, Transport and Communications and the Northern Ireland Department of the Environment have jointly commissioned from Coopers and Lybrand a socio-economic appraisal of the costs and benefits of upgrading the Dublin-Belfast rail line.
Multi-Channel TV Services:
Two reports were commissioned by the Department of Communications from Dr. J.A. Denis into aspects of the delivery systems for multi-channel TV services.
Report on Swansea-Cork:
A report was commissioned by the Department of Tourism and Transport from Davy Kelleher McCarthy into the prospects for commercial viability of a ferry service between Cork and Swansea and the contribution which a ferry service between Cork and Swansea would make to tourism in the south west region.
Access Transport Study:
A study was jointly commissioned by the Department of Tourism and Transport and the EC Commission from KPMG/Stokes Kennedy Crowley to examine and make recommendations on the provision of infrastructure and services for the movement of freight by sea and air.
B & I Line plc:
Stokes Kennedy Crowley Corporate Finance were commissioned by the Department of Tourism and Transport to advise in relation to the future of B & I Line plc.
