Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - River Moy (Mayo) Fishing Lease.

Jim Higgins

Question:

32 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties being encountered by Foxford Angling Club, County Mayo in obtaining renewal of their 35 year lease for a stretch of the River Moy; whether there is any proposal to bring the stretch of the river in question under State ownership; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am fully aware of the difficulties being experienced by the Foxford Angling Club in relation to the lease of a stretch of the Moy river at Foxford. However, I am sure you will appreciate that as the stretch of river in question is privately owned I have no function in the matter. There is no proposal to bring the stretch in question into State ownership.

I have arranged to meet a deputation from the Foxford Angling Club on Thursday next where all the issues arising will be explored.
