Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - VAT Revenue from Agricultural Community.

Tom Enright

Question:

59 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Finance the anticipated increase in revenue he will receive from the additional VAT increase he has imposed on the agricultural community from (1) accountancy fees (2) solicitor's fees and (3) maintenance and repair costs for agricultural machinery.

There is no effective yield from the imposition of VAT on farm inputs. Farmers who register for VAT are able to reclaim VAT borne on their farm business purchases in their periodic VAT returns. In the case of unregistered farmers, compensation is provided through the flat-rate VAT refund which farmers add to the prices of their agricultural products and services.
