Question:71 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine if he has any proposals to extend the pier at Glengad, Pollathomas, Ballina, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department's fishery harbour development programme, which covers the period up to the end of 1993, followed a detailed study of the infrastructural needs of the fishing industry and also relied, to a significant extent, on the priorities submitted by the local authorities. On this basis, it is difficult to see how funds could be made available by my Department for extending the pier at Glengad, Pollathomas, County Mayo, during the period of the programme.
