Vol. 405 No. 5

Written Answers. - Connection to Gas Grid.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

89 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the progress made to date on his promised commitment that Bord Gáis Éireann would commence a programme to connect up non-gas housing estates to the gas grid in early 1991; the estates which have been connected; and the estates which are listed for connection this year in the greater Dublin area.

Question:

91 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Energy if he will supply a list of those estates in Dublin which are not connected to the gas grid; and the estates which are to benefit from the increase of £9.263 million budget allocation to Bord Gáis Éireann which was provided to service increased numbers of domestic consumers.

I intend to take Questions Nos. 89 and 91 together.

In my reply to the Deputy's question on this matter in November last, I stated that Bord Gáis Éireann are developing a programme for the connection of the non-gas estates in the Dublin city area.

The completion of that programme depends on the outcome in the first two non-gas estates now being connected; these are at Palmerstown Woods, Clondalkin and Beauvale, Artane. Bord Gáis Éireann hope to have a provisional list for further 1991 connections later in the year.

The Deputy will appreciate that any listing of non-gas estates is an operational matter for Bord Gáis Éireann and inquiries on detailed plans might best be dealt with by direct contact with the company.

Capital allocations to finance any extension of the gas distribution grid in the Dublin area are drawn from Bord Gáis Éireann's own resources and are, therefore, a matter for the board.
