Question:

94 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Justice the number of banks and post offices which were robbed by criminals using firearms or offensive weapons during 1990; and the amount of money which was stolen from the banks and post offices respectively.

Provisional figures recorded by the Garda for 1990 indicate that there were a total of 63 armed robberies and 14 aggravated burglaries at banks and post offices during the year; about £334,000 was taken from banks in 52 incidents and about £67,000 was taken from post offices in 25 incidents.
