Written Answers. - Health Service Costs.

Richard Bruton

Question:

170 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health the estimated cost to the health service (1) of adjusting to a 39 hour week for nurses in 1991 and (2) in a full year, on the basis of maintaining existing staffing practices.

The total cost of implementation of the 39 hour week in the health services in 1991 is £18 million. This is also the annual cost. Implementation of the 39 hour week for nurses will account for £13 million of the total cost in 1991.
