Vol. 405 No. 7

Written Answers. - FÁS Appointment.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

41 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the role he played in the selection and recent appointment of a new director general/chief executive for FÁS; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In accordance with section 6 (3) and (5) of the Labour Services Act, 1987, the director general of FÁS is appointed by FÁS with the consent of the Minister for Labour and holds office on and subject to such terms and conditions as may be determined by the Minister for Labour with the consent of the Minister for Finance.

In accordance with the legislation, the board of FÁS asked for my consent to the appointment of the former chairman of FÁS, Mr. John Lynch as director general. I duly consented to the appointment and with the consent of the Minister for Finance set out the conditions under which he was to be employed. Mr. Lynch is to take up duty on 4 March.
