Vol. 405 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fact Finding Mission to Cambodia.

Tom Kitt

Question:

51 Mr. T. Kitt asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will send an Irish mission to Cambodia to assess at first hand the current situation in that country.

I have continued to keep in close touch with developments in Cambodia. I receive regular reports on the situation in Cambodia from various sources including our partners in the Twelve, the United Nations, non-governmental organisations and other foreign ministers. I consider that the information available on Cambodia is adequate for the purpose of formulating Irish policy on the issues involved and that, therefore, a fact-finding mission would not be justified at this time. However, I do not rule out a mission should circumstances change and I will keep the matter under review.
