Vol. 405 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

Liam Aylward

Question:

53 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange for payment of a rebate of income tax to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 20 December 1990. Following receipt of the taxpayers cessation certificate (P45) the Inspector of Taxes issued an application form (P50) i.e. claim for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment, to the taxpayer on 23 January 1991. To date this has not been returned and the taxpayer should be advised to do so as soon as possible. When it is received the inspector will review the taxpayer's liability to tax for the current year, 1990-91 and arrange for a refund of any tax which may be due to him.

Question:

54 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange payment of a rebate of income tax to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer ceased employment on 23 December 1990 and submitted a claim for repayment of tax during unemployment to the Inspector of Taxes on 23 January 1991.

However, in order for his claim to be dealt with the inspector is awaiting details of his pay and tax paid from his former employer i.e. Form P45, Part 1. The inspector is currently pursuing this matter with the taxpayer's former employer and on receipt of this information any refund of tax due to the taxpayer will be issued without delay.

Michael Creed

Question:

55 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance when a tax rebate will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and the reason for the long delay with same.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a cheque for £6,246.40 was issued to the taxpayer today and there was not an undue delay in this case. The slight delay that arose was caused by pressure of work in the tax district.
