Vol. 405 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Development Projects Unit.

Michael Bell

Question:

2 Mr. Bell asked the Taoiseach the purpose and nature of the special projects wing in his Department; the number and location of overseas trips undertaken by personnel from that unit in 1990; the staffing concerned; and the projects undertaken by the unit since June 1987.

The Special Development Projects unit of my Department provide advice and assistance on the planning and implementation of various projects with potential for job creation including projects under the purview of the Central Review Committee of the Programme for National Recovery and its successor, the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

There are two staff in the unit, one on secondment from the Industrial Development Authority. There was one overseas trip in 1990, to Japan.

Is it intended to have a stand in Spain next year? What is the relationship between the team and, for example, the Department of Industry and Commerce, the IDA and other State bodies?

It is intended to have an Irish pavilion in Spain. The relationship between all the various bodies involved in development and job creation is one of co-ordination.
