Vol. 405 No. 8

Written Answers. - Forest Damage.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

32 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to the damage being caused to both public and private forests by the bank vole in the West Limerick/North Kerry area; and the measures he proposes to take to curb this menace.

I am aware that the bank vole has caused some limited damage to young plantations in the area mentioned by the Deputy. Surveys of the damage have been carried out and research to find effective control methods has been arranged and initiated. The surveys and research are continuing.
