Vol. 405 No. 9

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Frank Crowley

Question:

93 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether an application for a ewe premium has been approved for a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if not, the reason.

This applicant has been paid 1989 ewe premium and the first two instalments of 1990 ewe premium. The final instalment of 1990 premium cannot be paid until after the EC fixes the amount of that instalment.

When the applicant submits the documentary evidence of any lands owned or rented by him in the disadvantaged areas, which the local office has requested, his application for 1990 sheep headage will be considered further.

John Connor

Question:

94 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in making payment of cattle headage and other livestock grants for 1990 to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon; and the date on which these payments will be made.

As this applicant's off-farm income exceeded £3,500 in 1984, the 1984 cattle and equines headage scheme grants overpaid to him are being recovered from grants due under the 1985 calf premium, 1987 special beef premium and 1990 cattle and equines headage schemes.

He will be paid the outstanding balance shortly.

Question:

95 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in the payment of 1990 cattle headage and other livestock grants to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon; and the date on which these payments will be made.

This applicant will be paid his 1990 cattle and equines headage, suckler cow and special beef premium schemes grants shortly.

There is no particular delay in making these payments.

Question:

96 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in the payment of 1990 cattle headage and other livestock grants to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and the date on which these payments will be made.

Payments to this applicant under the 1990 cattle and equines headage and suckler cow premium schemes are being processed and will issue shortly. Delay in payment arose because he did not complete his application form correctly until mid-February 1991.

Austin Deasy

Question:

97 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the percentage of headage payments made in respect of (a) cattle and (b) sheep to date in disadvantaged areas in respect of the year 1990.

The percentages of headage payments made to date in respect of cattle and sheep under the 1990 disadvantaged areas scheme are as follows:

Scheme

Number Paid

Amount Paid

% Paid

Cattle and equines in the more severely handicapped areas

63,767

43.178

95.4

Beef cow and equines headage in the less severely handicapped areas

14,770

8.367

93.5

Sheep headage in all handicapped areas

29,917

16.256

95.7

All outstanding cases have not been paid because they are under query. As some applicants may turn out, following such queries, to be ineligible for payment, the figures quoted may understate the percentage paid under each scheme.

Austin Deasy

Question:

98 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in payment of a farm development grant to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in respect of a slatted cattle house and dairy unit; and when payment will be made.

It is hoped to have this grant paid within the next three to four weeks.

This applicant will be paid his 1990 special beef premium scheme grants shortly.

Charles Flanagan

100 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the present position regarding the availability of grants for the construction of abattoirs and slaughter houses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The position is that due to the existing high level of slaughtering capacity in the country there are no grants available at present, from either EC or national funds, for the construction of additional abattoirs or slaughter houses.

John Connor

Question:

102 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the long delay in clearing for payment 1990 cattle headage and other livestock grants due to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon; and when exactly these payments will be made.
