Vol. 406 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Elections.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

16 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment whether all local authority elections will take place on the same date this year.

The Government have decided that elections to county and county borough councils will take place on Thursday, 27 June. Elections to borough councils, urban district councils and town commissioners will be postponed until such time as decisions have been taken by the Government on appropriate structural arrangements at sub-county level. The matter will be dealt with in some detail in a statement on the Government's plans for local government reform which is being prepared for issue later today.
