Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Nora Owen — the huge increase in rateable valuation of commercial premises in Swords, County Dublin for 1991; (2) Deputy Jim Higgins; the need for the Minister for Education to give the go ahead to the badly needed dental hospital; (3) Deputy Therese Ahearn — the matter of Cashel Resource Centre, which has been sanctioned by his Department but is not yet operational; (4) Deputy Brendan Howlin — the need for the immediate intervention by the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications to ensure the re-opening of the port of New Ross and the restoration of the rail link from New Ross to Waterford; (5) Deputy John Browne (Carlow/Kilkenny)— the matter of new regulations regarding eyesight tests for employment with Iarnrod Éireann which basically eliminates spectacle wearers; (6) Deputy Toddy O'Sullivan — The measures the Minister for Labour intends to take to maintain industrial peace within An Post after the recent unilateral decision taken by the board of that body to terminate the concilation and arbitration scheme. (7) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan — the closure of Rathduff cheese factory with the loss of 80 jobs and the effect this closure will have on the community; (8) Deputy Pat McCartan — the restoration of walkie talkie radios to mobile patrol members of an Garda Síochána while on duty in the Dublin area; (9) Deputy Eric Byrne — the need for a new dental teaching hospital in Dublin; (10) Deputy Pat Rabbitte — the serious crisis facing voluntary and community projects which are operating social employment schemes because of the uncertainty over the ability of these important and worthwhile schemes to continue, due to the failure of FÁS to allow any new recruitment or to give any commitment to renew existing schemes; (11) Deputy Eamon Gilmore — the problem of the rising number of incidences of crime in the Dún Laoghaire constituency; (12) Deputy Proinsias De Rossa — the failure of the Minister for the Environment to carry out an environmental impact survey, on the effects on the people of Collins Avenue/Ballymun/ Glasnevin areas of Dublin, of the Sillogue interchange on the northern cross route, Dublin; (13) Deputy Seán Ryan — the new formula being used by the valuation office in assessing the rateable valuation of properties, which is having such a devastating effect on businesses in Swords, and which will be introduced nationwide and (14) Deputy Roger Garland — the continued delay of the Minister for Education in publishing the report on Dublin Zoo which is now nearly a year overdue.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: (1) Deputy Pat Rabbitte; (2) Deputy Jim Higgins and (3) Deputy Brendan Howlin.
