Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - RTE Transmission Charges.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

281 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if he will outline the role played by his Department in setting the fees to be paid by Century Radio to RTE for services provided; whether this agreement has been put into effect; and the amount of money which has now been paid by Century Radio to RTE.

In accordance with section 16 (2) of the Radio and Television Act, 1988 my predecessor had discussions with RTE and the Independent Radio and Television Commission concerning RTE's transmission charges for the new independent national radio service and issued a direction concerning those charges as provided for under the section mentioned. Implementation or otherwise of the agreement is a contractual matter between the parties concerned and I have no function in the matter.
