Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Funding.

Michael Creed

Question:

30 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the discrepancies between the level of funding available to the Cork Regional Hospital compared to similar hospitals in the Dublin region.

I am not in a position to respond to the Deputy's question as he has not identified the hospitals in the Dublin region which he regards as similar to Cork Regional Hospital. I presume that the Deputy is aware of the difficulties of making valid comparisons between hospitals which receive larger or less funding without having regard to a range of factors, including case mix complexity, volume of activity and level of overheads. Cork Regional Hospital receives the fourth largest allocation for acute hospitals in the country.
