Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Swinford (Mayo) Mentally Handicapped Complex.

Jim Higgins

Question:

90 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health if he is prepared to make additional finance available to the Western Health Board in order to enable the Áras Attracta Complex for the mentally handicapped in Swinford, County Mayo to accommodate further repatriation of Mayo patients who are currently receiving service outside the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Discussions are currently taking place between officers of my Department and officials of the Western Health Board to agree on the additional level of funding required to open further facilities at Áras Attracta.

These additional facilities will provide for those people currently in services outside the Western Health Board area who wish or whose families wish to have transferred to Áras Attracta and for the immediate priority needs of the region.
