Vol. 406 No. 4

Written Answers. - Points System.

Nora Owen

Question:

38 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education if she has given consideration to changing the present points system, as it relates to third level education, given the serious concern being expressed by educationalists that wrong choices are being made by many students.

Subject to the improvements in its operation which are currently being pursued, I am satisfied there is no more equitable or objective substitute for the allocation of third level places.

How wisely students exercise the choices available to them must, of necessity, continue to be a matter for the students themselves advised as appropriate by their schools and homes.
