Vol. 406 No. 5

Written Answers. - Beet Transport Subsidy.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

58 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether the initial agreement between the sugar company and western beet growers, agreed at the time of the closure of the Tuam factory under a transport subsidy agreement in 1986-87, that no extra costs would be incurred by beet growers in the area, will be maintained; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The agreement on the special transport subsidy in respect of beet produced west of the Shannon covers the period from the 1987-88 to the 1991-92 campaigns. The question of an extension beyond that period is, of course, a matter between the company and grower representatives.
