Vol. 406 No. 5

Written Answers. - Telephone Reconnection.

John Browne

Question:

64 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Justice if he has any plans to restore the telephone at a Garda's house in Myshall, County Carlow, so that people in the locality can contact him in an emergency.

The present position in this matter is as set out in my reply to a question by the Deputy on 18 December last — Official Report Volume 404, column 191. I am informed by the Garda authorities, however, that, in the context of proposals being developed by them to enhance community policing in rural areas consideration is being given to the general question of the installation of telephone extensions in some Garda living quarters which are close to their respective Garda stations. No decision has yet been taken on those proposals.
