Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

74 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the waiting lists for (a) orthopaedic surgery in the North-Eastern Health Board area and the number in respect of each hospital and (b) surgery in each of the hospitals in the North-Eastern Health Board area.

Elective orthopaedic services in the North-Eastern Health Board area are provided at Our Lady's Orthopaedic Hospital, Navan. There are 390 patients on the waiting list for orthopaedic surgery at the hospital at present. This represents an improvement of 22 per cent on the figure for July 1989.

There are no waiting lists for other surgical procedures in the board's acute hospitals or at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

The number of hip operations carried out at the hospital has increased from 181 in 1989 to 226 in 1990. This represents an increase of over 24 per cent.
