Vol. 406 No. 7

Written Answers. - Training Allowances.

Richard Bruton

Question:

146 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Labour the level of allowance payable to 14-year olds doing community training workshops courses; the way in which this compares with other training allowances; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Training under the aegis of my Department is provided for persons 15 years of age and over who have left the education system.

The range of allowances payable is as follows:

Full Time

Part Time(20 hours per week)

Trainee aged 15/16 years

£21.63

Trainee aged 17 years

£27.04

Trainee aged 18 years and over

£52.00

£29.93

If a trainee's social welfare entitlement exceeds the rates quoted, a training allowance equivalent to the higher entitlement is paid on receipt of evidence to this effect from the Department of Social Welfare. A bonus of £10 per week is also paid to trainees with dependency status.
