Dermot Ahern

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 219 and 221 together.

The format of an entry in the Register of Births is one of the many issues concerning procedures for the registration of births, deaths and marriages which merits consideration. The laws which determine these procedures are currently under review and it is my intention to ensure that any proposals for changes in these laws will not discriminate against either sex in respect of the manner in which details of a parents occupation is included in the entry in the Register of Births.
