Vol. 407 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mining Legislation.

Séamus Pattison

Question:

57 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the changes he is considering to mining legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not contemplating any changes to existing mining legislation at present. The Deputy may be aware that I have, however, recently announced changes in administrative procedures relating to the grant of State mining leases and prospecting licences which should ease the burden on industry and speed up the application and renewal system. My commitment to the protection of the environment will not be affected by these measures.
