Vol. 407 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Brothels.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

19 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice if his Department have estimated the number of brothels operating in Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there have been two convictions relating to brothel keeping in the past seven years. All complaints made to the gardaí, or any information which comes to their attention relating to alleged brothel keeping are thoroughly investigated and where sufficient evidence is available the matter is referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for direction as to whether a prosecution should take place.
