Vol. 407 No. 8

Written Answers. - Veterinary Medicinal Products.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

56 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will request that the National Drugs Advisory Board desist from requiring veterinary medicine producers to complete full clinical trials before they can produce generic forms of well established drugs and so bring this country into line with practice in other EC member states where literature search is sufficient.

The National Drugs Advisory Board are the competent authority for the assessment and authorisation of veterinary medicinal products in accordance with the provisions of the relevant EC Directives. While the board are independent in the discharge of their function, I will make them aware of the Deputy's concern.
