Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Moate, Westmeath, School.

Paul McGrath

Question:

208 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education if, in view of her recent announcement that a new model would be introduced in Moate, County Westmeath to replace the existing three second level schools, she will outline (a) if it will involve the amalgamation of the three schools into one campus with one principal and teaching staff, (b) the way the board of management will be formed and (c) the time-scale for the introduction of this model.

My Department have had discussions with the managements of the three post-primary schools in Moate regarding the possibility of developing a single post-primary school for the centre. As a first step, a working party comprising the principals and the vice-principals of the three schools is being established to co-ordinate co-operation arrangements between the schools for the 1991-92 school year.

Pending further discussions with the school managements, it would be inappropriate, at this early stage, to speculate as to the precise conditions or the time scale under which a single school development in Moate might be achieved.
