Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Irish Rail Freight Train Operations.

Paul McGrath

Question:

216 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if proposals by Irish Rail to make freight trains one man operated will pose a threat to the safety of other rail users; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by the chairman of CIE that the proposed introduction of driver only operations on certain freight trains in the railway network will be undertaken by CIE with full regard to the need to maintain maximum safety of rail operations at all times.
