Vol. 407 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tourism Promotion Funding.

James Leonard

Question:

99 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Finance the amount allocated to each Border county from the European Regional Development Fund for tourism promotion for each of the last three years.

My function in relation to the provision of funding of tourism promotion relates solely to the ERDF special border areas programme which covers the Counties Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth. Phase II of this programme, covering the period 1986-1991, provides ERDF aid for energy and tourism measures.

On the tourism side the measures aided under the programme are tourism promotion, the provision of tourist amenities and infrastructure and access roads.

The programme provides for a total amount of £0.55 million ERDF aid for the promotion of tourism in the area over the period of the programme; this is not apportioned on an annual basis. Because many of the promotional measures embrace more than one county, it is not possible to provide a breakdown of the allocation on a county-by-county basis.
