Vol. 408 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Card Refusal.

Seán Barrett

Question:

100 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who is facing financial and other difficulties related to his artificial limb, and who prefers to be employed on a small wage rather than go on disabled person's maintenance allowance at the State's expense, has been refused a medical card; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy may be aware, the issue of a medical card is a matter solely for the chief executive officer of the health board in which the applicant resides.

I have forwarded details of this case to the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health board and I have asked that he respond directly to the Deputy.
