Vol. 408 No. 8

Written Answers. - Higher Education Fees.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

93 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if she will outline, in respect of the latest year for which figures are available (1) the fee for each field of study in each designated institution under the Higher Education Authority, (2) the estimated recurrent cost per student in each field of study in each designated institution under the Higher Education Authority and (3) the average fee and average recurrent cost per student in each field of study in each designated institution under the Higher Education Authority.

Fees are set by the individual colleges. I have been supplied, through the Higher Education Authority, with a detailed list of the fees applicable in the institutions operating under their aegis. I am arranging to have a copy of this list forwarded to the Deputy immediately.

A unit cost study on a course basis for the institutions in the higher education sector will be completed later this year and as a result more meaningful information will be available at that stage relating to costs per course in each institution. Reliable information on such costs is not available pending completion of this study.
