Vol. 408 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cleft Lip and Palate Condition.

Bernard Allen

Question:

91 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will carry out a national survey to establish the level of cleft lip and palate condition in Ireland.

Existing research has estimated the incidence of cleft lip and palate internationally as one case per 750 normal live births. There is no evidence to suggest that the incidence in Ireland would deviate from this level and I do not therefore consider it necessary to carry out a national survey for this purpose at this time.
