Vol. 408 No. 9

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy John Browne (Wexford) — the problem of 200 itinerant horses roaming wild and out of control on the streets of Enniscorthy destroying public and private property; (2) Deputy Brian Cowen — while welcoming the proposed extension of less severely handicapped areas under the disadvantaged areas scheme in County Offaly and the prospects for other areas to be so included on appeal to the Appeals Tribunal, if the Minister for Agriculture and Food will urgently reexamine and review the reclassification proposals in relation to County Offaly so as to enable the inclusion of the district electoral divisions that comprise the Shannon Valley and Sliabh Bloom areas in County Offaly, as severely handicapped areas under the scheme; (3) Deputy Michael P. Kitt — the reason the agreement between the Irish Sugar Company and Tuam community group to establish an IDA factory in Tuam has run into difficulties; when these difficulties will be solved and when work on the advance factory will begin; (4) Deputy Seán Ryan — the crisis in Holy Family junior national school, River Valley, Swords where up to 140 children may have to be refused entry in September 1991, due to the lack of accommodation; (5) Deputy Nora Owen — the case of a young physically handicapped student who will not be able to sit his intermediate certificate examination because of delays in the Department of Education in agreeing special arrangements for the student; (6) Deputy Bernard Allen — if the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications will take steps to prevent the Bank of Ireland from posting access credit card statements from an address in Great Britain, thereby depriving the Irish postal services of much needed revenue; (7) Deputy Pat McCartan — the failure of the Minister for Justice to appoint new members to the Legal Aid Board and the consequent inability of the board to carry out its functions; (8) Deputy Eric Byrne — the shared ownership scheme which is contained in the Government's plan for social housing; (9) Deputy Eamon Gilmore — the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 134 of 21 May 1991, to the Minister for the Environment; (10) Deputy Roger Garland — the latest evidence of the serious lice infestation affecting sea trout smolts, its serious implications for the future of sea trout in the west of Ireland and the continued inaction of the Minister for the Marine in this regard.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Garland, Cowen and Bernard Allen.
