Vol. 408 No. 9

Written Answers. - Derogation of Special Beef Premium Scheme.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

47 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the details of any derogations granted to the Irish Government by the European Community in 1990 for the special beef premium scheme; and if he has satisfied himself that implementation of the derogation is within the boundaries of the scheme.

No derogation was granted by the European Community in 1990 to the Irish Government in respect of the special beef premium scheme.

The EC Commission, however, by letter of 25 October 1990, gave an interpretation of the EC Regulations governing the special beef premium scheme which allowed payment to be made in certain cases which I had raised with the Commission. I am fully satisfied that the interpretation in question is in accordance with the EC Regulations governing that scheme.
