Vol. 408 No. 9

Written Answers. - Santry Woods (Dublin) Preservation.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

68 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Energy if any investigation has been carried out as to the possibility of the State purchasing Santry Woods, Dublin 9; his views on whether it is desirable to save the woods; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The preservation of trees for amenity purposes is primarily a matter for the local authority and I understand the trees at Santry Woods are covered by a tree preservation order.

The possibility of acquiring Santry Woods has not been considered by my Department nor do I think it would be appropriate to do so.
