Vol. 409 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sheep Thefts.

Noel Davern

Question:

90 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the fact that for two years in a row large numbers of sheep have been stolen from the Knockmealdown Mountains with particular reference to the area between Lisinore, County Waterford and Clogheen, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not the practice for the Minister for Justice to give detailed information to the House about individual Garda investigations except in singular instances where the circumstances of an investigation are so exceptional that such a course is deemed to be appropriate. I do not propose to make any statement in this case other than to say that I have been informed by the Garda authorities and two cases of alleged sheep theft in the areas concerned are being investigated by them.
