Vol. 409 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ombudsman's Recommendations.

John Bruton

Question:

28 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Social Welfare the action he is taking on the recommendations of the Ombudsman in respect of the present anomaly in the social welfare code whereby invalidity pensioners do not qualify for the over 80 allowance.

The over 80 allowance is payable to recipients of the old age, blind, widows and retirement pensions and to recipients of the deserted wife's benefit and allowance and prisoners' wife's allowance.

I will consider the extension of the allowance to invalidity pensioners in a budgetary context.
