Vol. 409 No. 6

Written Answers. - Alternative Fuel.

James Leonard

Question:

128 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for the Environment if, in conjunction with the Departments of Energy and Agriculture and Food, he will have a survey carried out on the way in which the surplus poultry litter and waste mushroom compost could be utilised as a fuel or as a fertiliser.

The environment action programme and the Programme for Economic and Social Progress strongly support the principle of establishing new industries based on recycling. I understand that proposals relating to the areas mentioned in the question have been made to the industrial development agencies and are being considered.

Direct assistance from my Department is available principally to small scale recycling activities based on the domestic waste stream.
